Vox met her choreographer, Kavita Rao, an Indian American who lives in West Hollywood, on an earlier shoot. The dancers included a Vietnamese, two women from Delhi, two guys from California, and a hip-hop-jazz man from New York. Vox was as focused on her dance steps as she was her fashion, changing from cut-off shorts to Indian bubble pants.

`Aaja- A Tale of Karmic Destiny,’ of love, fantasy, seduction, sacrifice, redemption, and self-realization, was sketched thoroughly in the minds of audiences by the Karmagraphy group at El Portal theatre here with performances from August 25 to 27. The group that is quite popular in the LA area...

HOUSTON: The jam-packed audience of more than 12,000 people was indeed left breathless at the Bollywood 2015 ‘Breathless’ show held at Miller Outdoor Theatre on September 12. On achieving the milestone of the tenth year, Bollywood Blast, produced by Samskriti and directed by Infused Performing Arts and Karmagraphy, got the entire theatre’s adrenaline on a dancing high.

Aishya first met Rohan when she was touring UC Berkeley, where Rohan was a junior. He showed her around campus the next day, during which they exchanged phone numbers and kept in touch. When Aishya decided to attend UC Berkeley, the two began hanging out more frequently; and once she moved there for school, they quickly became inseparable.

Dance is beauty, escape and survival. This is the story of one dance group; from the group’s creation by a young, female entrepreneur to the stories of dancers struggling with their own journeys toward success in a tough industry. This is the story of Karmagraphy.

Two Los Angeles-based contemporary dance ensembles — one inspired by Indian dance traditions and the other by Israeli folk dance — will perform choreography in a bill that celebrates each country’s unique history and customs. Keshet Chaim Dance Ensemble and Karmagraphy will share the stage for “Lands of Light” at Plaza del Sol Performance Hall at Cal State Northridge on Sept. 17 and 18.

It was an inspirational experience. “I’ve always visited [India], but I never realized I would love it until I went as a professional dancer,” says Rohra, who has since started a Los Angeles – based dance company, Karmagraphy, that teaches and performs Bollywood, traditional Indian, hip-hop, and contemporary.

Shivani, a dancer and choreographer who is set to release ‘Let’s Dance Bollywood’, an instructional DVD this year, and Sapna, who has a Bollywood fusion dance company, Karmagraphy with her partner Kavita Rao, were featured in two song/dance numbers in the movie, ‘Pump it Up’ and ‘One More Dance’. It was a challenging and fun experience as they were called upon to do Hip Hop to Bollywood music.
